CHRISTMAS BREAK!

This is the 2nd of my 14 days off and it has been glorious! I have been spending time with my family and cleaning my house, both much needed things. Being a full time employee (in the ministry), a full time mother, and a full time wife is....challenging...to say the least. The Lord has been teaching me many things about setting attainable goals, not perfection, and serving Him with what you have, time included. I LOVE my little Elli and am so blessed to have her in my life, but I had no idea what a task of being a mother was. It is an awesome task, but one definitely learned as I (we) seek to raise her to serve and love God.

Thank you Lord for your blessings of family, friends, fellowship, and faith.

I now understand why it is so hard to keep up with friends, well anyways. Children lovingly need a ton of your time. I never really realized that until now. Eliana is a very good baby but even though she will play by herself most of the day, she wants to be with me or around me lots which in turn deters me from accomplishing much while I AM at home. It truly is a lovely thing to distract me from my duties, but I can't seem to make the time to keep in touch like I would like. I used to be pretty good at it, I thought, until now.... Oh, Well! As Steve Piggot would say. You Live, Learn, and Adjust!

Christmas Time Again!

Christmas is a great time to make memories with your family and others! What a great way to share your family memories with others than to send a picture Christmas Card! What can I say? School is out, the yearbook is done and submitted, etc. A sigh of relief is being uttered. Ahhhhhh........It is nice to just be at home with Phil and Elli and hang out for a few days until summer school starts. Elli LOVES being at home! She is so good and relaxed when she is at home rather than school; to be expected I suppose.

Well, Elli has eaten rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes, green beans, pears, and bananas. She does NOT care for, but will eat, green beans and bananas. She loves sweet potatoes and the cereals so far. Pears are tolerable; the face she makes when she eats bananas is hilarious but she will eat them.

We just got Elli's 6 month pictures and I think they turned out ok for a man photographer. She does alot better for ladies because of their higher voices. We are enjoying our little Elli very much. Thank you Lord!

22 Weeks and eating

On Tuesday, May 4, Eliana was 22 weeks. She has been trying to eat everything we eat and drink everything we drink so I decided I would try to give her rice cereal. I gave her some that evening and she did very well. I believe that she likes it and enjoys eating like mommy and daddy. She is so funny; it is so amazing to watch a child learn. =) We also got her one of those beginner sippy cups to occupy her while we try to eat. Likes that too! Such a "big girl." Thank you Lord for your gift this Mother's Day! Truly a blessing!

Our little Elli is getting big! She is getting fun now and we get to play sometimes. Things are getting a little bit harder having her at school everyday since she wants to go and do and see now but it should work until the end of school.

I just realized that I had not posted my most recent dr.'s appt! I visited the hematologist and my blood levels have been normal for 6 months now! Soooo, I don't have to go back and see him anymore!!! Woohoo!

A Day off from School! Woohoo! Haven't posted in a looooong time BUT I have been feeling somewhat better and am going to try to be better! =) Hopefully this day off will give me a good start!

Health Update 8/25/08

Friday I had my appointment with my hematologist. I had been put on 40mg of prednisone to keep me out of the hospital while waiting for him to return from vacation. At my appointment my hemaglobin was only 7.5 with the 40mg! With that reading my doctor made the order for me to begin treatments with a chemo drug called Rituxan. It is not chemotherapy just an IV chemo drug that is supposed to kill all of the bad white blood cells that are killing my red blood cells. After the appointment, I went downstairs to the chemo clinic and got registered. Well, I told the doctor that I had driven myself to the appt that day and so he only ordered half of the amount of pre-med Benadryl to help my body accept the medicine. After I got my IV and my IV pre-meds they began the infusion very slowly. The first drip rate was fine and then they served me lunch. I began eating and began to feel my mouth itch and some constriction in my chest. I didn't think too much of it until it grew worse and I felt as if I couldn't swallow and could't breathe very well. I motioned for the nurse to come over and they checked my oxygen level and it was 99% but that didn't make me feel any better, I still couldn't breathe well. They gave me more benadryl to counter the reaction, Tylenol, Zantac for the indigestion I guess I was having and a breathing treatment to relieve the constriction I felt in my lungs. It was very scary. Finally, they began the medicine again and things were ok. After a bit though I could feel my throat begin to hurt a little again but It didn't progress like before so I was able to finish my first treatment. I have to receive this treatment for the next 3 weeks and then wait 1 month to see if my counts go up. This first week I still have to be on prednisone too. =( If after the month is up and my counts don't improve like they want they will remove my spleen. Ugh! So, hopefully this very expensive, 3rd treatment type will actually get my hemaglobin up and it will STAY up once off of the medication. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and please continue to pray for strength as school has started back up again here and for wisdom for the doctors and that I can be a testimony to those I come in contact with for my treatments!

6/6/08 Update!

Well............My hemoglobin level has dropped to 10.4 from 10.8 =(. The doctor is going to continue to shorten my tapering to 10mg every 7 days which I don't really understand, but he also notified my hematologist in Dothan, AL to see what else to do I guess. Also, my hematocrit level is 30.3 which is a little low so just continue to pray for wisdom for the doctors and for me to rest in God's will and trust him.

Short Update

Not much to report really. On 5/7 I had a blood draw which reported my hemoglobin at 10.8 and so the doctor had me start tapering my prednisone at 10mg every 10 days and come back in a month for another blood draw. I am now at 60mg ready to drop to 50mg on Friday! I am doing well on the tapering! Such a difference from the 80mg, 70mg to the 60mg! Praise the Lord for his grace and goodness in this situation.

I got a blood draw on Wed, April 23 and my hemoglobin count was 10.1! Praise the Lord! Thank you for ALL of your prayers! Because of my "rapid" increase the doctor wants another blood draw in 2 weeks and then they may start to taper my prednisone then! The hematologist said that they probably wouldn't be able to taper for about 8 weeks! Please continue to pray that once they do start to taper my dose that my count stays up so I won't have to have anymore treatment, BUT ultimately for God's will in all of this. He has taught me many things from this experience.

Hematology Appt Fri, April 4, 2008

The appointment went very well. He answered a few other questions that I had about this whole thing. He said that I did seem to have a very severe case of this warm body autoimmune hemolytic anemia and wanted to give me the chemo drug yesterday. However, since my hemoglobin did increase from 6.7 to 7.1 just from taking my prednisone he have me a 2 day course of decadron, another steroid to maybe suppress my white blood cells more over the weekend and then get 2 blood draws next week and see how that works. If this doesn't work significantly they want to give me this chemo drug Rituxan which does have a good outcome rate but is VERY expensive. It is an IV infusion you get once weekly for 4 weeks. The drug company does offer a potential free course of treatment for certain incomes and uninsured so I am checking into that, so please pray that we would be eligible for that because this drug is not really made yet for my diagnosis, just RA and Lymphoma so far. Then, if the Rituxan doesn't work terribly well, a spleenectomy may need to be done. Hopefully, it won't get that far but that is the potential course of action. I am continuing to feel a little better, not great, but better; maybe I am just getting used to the illness, who knows! Hopefully I will be able to adjust well to school starting again on Monday! I have been out of work essentially for a month since I was admitted to the hospital for 1 week on March 10. Pray for strength! Thank you ALL for your prayers and caring notes!

My Recent (and continuing) Illness

I have been tired for a while but at the beginning of March it was really bad. I began to be pale and dizzy some and then I began to be yellow and almost non-functional. So, March 10 after school I went to urgent care and they admitted me because my hemoglobin level was at 5.5 and is supposed to be between 12-13. They were going to do a blood transfusion but found that I have hemolytic anemia which means that my body is still making red blood cells but my white blood cells are killing them so fast they can't accumulate. I was in the hospital for 1 week being treated with IV prednisone trying to suppress my white blood cells. (They don't know what is causing this) After a week my level went to 6.7 and they let me go home and rest but not work, which I really couldn't anyway. Since being at home, I have been on oral prednisone 80mg per day (a lot!) and after 3 days my levels still didn't go up. So, last week I had to go to the hospital Mon-Thu for a 3 hour IV treatment of hemoglobulin to try to suppress my white blood cells more. Well, I had a blood draw yesterday and my hemoglobin is still at 6.7! ugh! Now, I have an appointment on Friday with the hematologist that my doctor has been in contact with for a treatment with a new chemo-drug (not a full-chemo treatment) that will wipe out all of my bad white blood cells instead of the old drugs which would wipe out ALL of your bad white blood cells. Hopefully this will allow my body to begin to accumulate and keep the red blood cells that it is making. In a nutshell, that is it. I am doing better than I was but not great. This blood disorder with the prednisone is quite a combo of 'side effects'. Please continue to pray that they will figure out exactly what is causing this to occur, whether autoimmune disease or virus or whatever, but 50% of these cases they never figure out what is causing it. Lord TRULY only knows!

Short Trip to CA!

My friend Karen and I took a short trip to CA for the weekend from 6/7 - 6/11!! We went to see a graduation @ Walnut High School. The graduate, Danielle, used to go to church with us here in Watertown before she moved to CA with her family. It was good to be there for her graduation and to see her family.

In addition to going to the graduation, we were also able to go to Disneyland and the beach. Saturday evening after we went to the beach, my brother Christian and his wife Elisabeth came to see us. We had home-made ice cream and played Pit!! It was lots of fun. Especially with 8 people!

After these eventful 3 days, Sunday we were able to just gather together in the Lord's house at my home church Gethsemane Baptist Church in Long Beach, CA. There I was able to see many friends and introduce them to Karen.

Monday morning @ 3am came very early to get up to prepare for departure from LAX airport.

Overall we had a great but busy time of "vacation"!!

Saying Hello and Goodbye!

All in one weekend I was saying hello and goodbye to so many friends! First, for graduation weekend I had Beth and Brittany staying with me for graduation, just for a short weekend. Then I was able to have breakfast with my friend Ginny who was my college roommate and bridesmaid. It was very good to catch up with her. I was able to meet Beth's parents at her graduation.

I was also able to meet Adam's parents and see him graduate.

On Saturday there was a going away party for one of my friends at work. Liz has left us at ShopKo pharmacy to become a physicians assistant! For her party she chose to go to Chicago.

We left late Saturday morning and drove to Chicago. When we got there we shopped @ Lori's Shoes - The Sole of Chicago and that was quite the experience for me considering I am not a shoe connoisseur at ALL! There were some very interesting shoes there.

Then we ate lunch at Tilli's Restaurant. It was a nice little place. We had chicken quesadillas, calamari, spinach/artichoke dip with pita bread, salad and I had hummus for the first time. It was pretty good!

We then proceeded to the "Magninficent Mile" on Michigan Ave! Lots of shopping was done there! We went to Filene's Basement then to

I have never been to this store but it was very interesting. Kind of a teenie bopper store so Kate and I walked to Starbucks while everyone was shopping there. After that Kate and I separated from the others and took off to "Vickie's", Borders's, the Hershey's Store which was very cool! We then proceded to the Water Tower Place, the coolest mall I have yet been to! It is a 7 story mall with an awesome food court! We didn't have much time left so we didn't get to go everywhere we wanted but we did go to Fossil and on the way we met up with the other girls at Soho where they were trying on hair extensions. It was very interesting and quite realistic. They had beautiful hair clips and baretts there. After that we were out of time and had to proceed to our next appointment at N9NE. There we wined and dined.

For dinner between us we had steak, lobster, shrimp, crab, chicken, veggies and "on the house" "compliments of the chef" sushi! It was crazy! It was a small square of tuna topped with a shrimp topped with cavier all with wabasi sauce on it. I did try it and that was enough for me. This was quite a day of experiences. After dinner came dessert! Yum yum!

A Work Outing

The pharmacists @ ShopKo invited all of us

techs out for dinner and an interesting evening.

We went to Rossario's which is an Italian Restaurant in Monona, WI. It was very nice to get together with almost everyone and their spouses and/or friends. As seen in the pictures below, the spaghetti was placed in the middle of the table for all to eat off of. We were told to use the spaghetti scooper and to pull some toward us on the table. We also had very good salad and bread. The food was very good and so was the fellowship. Jason "Nerdby" came up with a few games to keep us occupied and to keep the night interesting after dinner was finished. Thanks for

everything; I believe we all had a great time!

A Long Lost Update(s)

Well, since my trip to California in 8/06 a bit has happened. I took a few graduate classes at Maranatha for Biblical Counseling and they were a blessing. Then we decided to move to a new apartment on Halloween (10/31). Our new apartment is great. I love it. It is bigger and has a washer and dryer IN the apartment. We now have a garage and plenty of room to store all of our junk. There is also more room for Clarence to run around.

For Christmas Ralf came up to visit for 3 weeks. It was a blessing to have him here with us, even if he did talk to Adria almost the entire time. =) He did help me clean and organize the apt while he was here (as seen in the pic on the left).

While he was here, he was trying to be a blessing to a family moving in to our apartment complex and dropped a brick on his toe and broke it. The first pic is of his toe when he came home bleeding all over the place and I was trying to clean and bandage it. I could not get the bleeding to stop so we went to Urgent Care and found out that when he dropped the brick he split his TOE wide open and cracked the toe bone!! (As pictured in the second pic as the doc is suturing up his toe and sewing his toenail back on. Sick!)

On December 31, 2007 my friend Sarah and her husband Jerry had a baby girl, Emily Jane Chappell!

Ummmm.... In January I had a doctor's appointment and they discovered that I have a cyst in my thyroid gland. I had to have a nuclear thyroid scan to see if it was malignant or benign and it is benign PTL! Then the youth group went on a ski trip to Cascade Mt. and for the 3rd time skiing ever, it was fun. There wasn't a lot of snow so I couldn't snow plow very well and became fearful and quit a little early. After skiing we had an all-nighter at the church with the teens, eating, playing games, playing video games, watching "Cars" and then finishing by eating prepared by Chef Karen Robotti! Ummm........

In January I also took a trip to Chicago with Chef Karen and kids. We drove to Chicago, a first for Karen and kids, and ate lunch at the 7 story Market Place mall and then went to the Apple Store to look at computers. Then we went took the kids to Shedd Aquarium. Good Times!

In February we got quite a bit of snow. Just take a look. It covered the bushes!! I think that we got about 12 inches or more all together. It just started snowing and didn't stop. Morning church was even cancelled for road safety. I have never even had a snow day @ Maranatha! I was able to make my 2nd snowman ever with my friend Karen and her kids, my favorite kids ever!

The day of the incoming snow storm we had the Wisconsin Youth Conclave. Brian Trainer was the evangelist who spoke. If you click on the link above you can download some of the messages from the conclave. Mr. David Hockman spoke on Walking in Light of the Cross and it was a great blessing and reminder.

In March it was Pastor and Mrs. David Smith's 12 year anniversary @ Gethsemane Baptist Church in Long Beach, CA. I also took a weekend trip to IN to see some long lost friends. First I traveled to the Terra Haute area to see the lovely newly-weds Jeremy and Julie. They are doing very well. Their new portable home is very nice and very accomodating. I stayed the night with them. The next morning, after the time change and the change from CST to EST I travelled to Indianapolis area to see Troy and Charity. I have not seen them both since I was in their wedding in 1/03. The lived in the UK since they got married and just moved back to the states. Troy is a youth/assistant pastor at a church in Zionsville, IN. He and Charity are both doing very well, and Praise the Lord, faithfully serving Him too! I attended their church, Mts Runn Baptist Church, and was able to be there for the prayer of dedication to the ministry there. After church we went to lunch and got to have some very good fellowship after so many years. Pray for them as they get settled here in the states and start purchasing various items that they either had to sell before coming back here or broke on the way here.

to CST to see my friend Neema. She teaches English @ Fairhaven Baptist Academy. I went to church with her @ Fairhaven and then drove back home for a grand total of 900 miles in 1 1/2 days!! A definite record for me. Through the 900 miles I was able to stop @ 3 Starbucks!! Yeah!

March was a busy time for birthdays. Our friends, the Robotti's have 3 of 4 birthdays in March.

First there was a party for my favorite boy, John-John who turned 2!!!

Second was a party for my favorite girl Alyssa. She turned 5!!

Third was a party for Greg who turned 19!! =)

Fourth was the birth of Elijah Ronald Caucutt.

In March I went to the WFBC Ladies Retreat held @ Northland Baptist Bible College.

It was a blessing to be with various ladies from the church and get to know them better. The Lord really blessed me through the main speaker, Jen Janz.

The Lord has really blessed her with a great speaking ability. She taught the Word of God with ease and strength conveying our absolute need for it in our lives and to be lived out in our lives. The Lord really helped me to get back focused on Him and His will for my life instead of me and what I want. Praise the Lord for his goodness and forgiveness.

In March we also went to all-night laser tag

with the teens! That was a very fun first for me. We went with some teens from a few other churches and met together for a message from the Word and then to Laser Tag!! It was a little hard to catch onto right away, or at all for that matter. I can't play worth a lick but I had a good time. I also met a very nice man @ McDonald's named Zell. He distributed much sustinance for our teens and coffee for me to stay awake.

Sorry I haven't blogged in FOREVER! Alot has
been going on! Ralf and I went to California from
8/17-8/31. It was a neat experience for Ralf.
I had a good time visiting with "half of Southern
California" as Phil says. We went canvassing to
help start Fountain of Life Baptist Church in
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.

We also visited my brother and his wife in
Pasadena. We mainly just hung out and spent
some time together and then went to Old Towne
Pasadena.

We also went to Disneyland with my sister Christina, my good friend Carolyn, her sister Catherine, and Ralf. Later after school let out we were joined by my brother Tim and Alexandra.

From there we went to see Julie Doyel
get married to Jeremy Coombes. It was truly a
beautiful wedding and a blessing to see ALL of the
Doyels and their spouses and their children as seen
below.

Quick Update!

Haven't written in a while. Busy with work and family stuff, getting stuff ready to go to CA and visit family and friends!

1. Ralf is practically all better now! Just a little cough and congestion.

2. Granny Durham is now at home with constant care of her children. She does have a very bad STAPH infection however. Continue to pray for her and those caring for her.

3. Phil's "Pa" is currently in a nursing home for rehab for about 3 weeks. Please pray for him to gain strength in his legs while he is there.

4. Phil has been working like a crazy man for a while now and is getting very weary! Please pray for strength and endurance for him as he manages the group homes.

5. I am doing pretty well. Just working and trying to keep up the home. Getting ready for my vacation and for grad classes in the fall!

6. Some friends of ours, Art and Katie, are moving to NY Tuesday for a new job/ministry. Please pray for safety as they travel and to get adjusted quickly to a new home, church and job.

7. Some friends of ours, Josh and Sarah, are travelling back from their vacation tomorrow. Pray for safety as they travel home!

Many of our family members have been having a hard time lately.
--First, Ralf got really sick for a few days, but we were able to doctor him right up. He still has a cough but doing well.
--Second, Phil's Granny Durham had to go into the hospital for diverticulitis. She then had to have surgery on her colon and intestines. She had a small stretch of rapid heartbeat and a fever. She is now doing better but has an infection. Please pray for her to gain strength and for the family there that will be helping her daily with her needs.
--Third, Phil's "Pa" fell and broke his leg and had to have surgery. Doctors say he won't be able to put any weight on it for about 4 months! Please pray for his continued strength and for "Ma" as she cares for him and his many needs as he is down now for a while.

For those of you wondering who "Ralf" is, it is Phil's little brother of 15. His actual name is Richard. However, when I first met him I couldn't remember his name and I knew that it was like a grown-up name so I called him Ralph and he loved it so now his nickname is Ralf (how he prefers to spell it!) Well, he and Phil's mom, Ma came for my graduation and Ralf wanted to stay with us for the summer! So Phil and I have a teenager living with us for the summer!! AHHH! No, we love him very much; he is a great kid! We have had alot of fun this summer getting to know each other better. We will be very sad to see him go back home later this summer!

Fellowship

It is so nice to spend time with friends! Last night after church Phil, Ralf and I went over to the Caucutt's house for some food and fellowship! We had pizza and popcorn and watched the news about the war with Israel and played Catch Phrase! I LOVE that game. It is so fun to see how other people explain things. We played men against women and almost every other description of the boys were related to sports and all of our girls descriptions were "obscure". =) Good times!

Also, I received the invitation to the wedding that I am going to in August! I can't wait to fellowship with all of my friends and family all across central and southern CA! Here is a pic of the Happy Couple!

Diet Update!

An update on my diet! I finished my 3 days of dieting successfully and lost 5 pounds! Yeah! Gonna try it again Tue - Thur for another 5 hopefully!

What a day!

What a day I had! I was awakened from my sleeping in by a phone call, so I got up. Then my usual occured, checking email, paying bills, eating breakfast. I finally bought my plane tickets to CA today for Julie's wedding!! (Well, not just for Julie's wedding but to also see some family and friends and a little beach while I am there.) Then I got ready for work, ate lunch, packed my dinner and was on my way to work. On my way to work, my little white, run-around-town car decided to break a ball and hinge joint on the driver side tire, right in the middle of the intersection. Almost all of the cars were able to go around me but it was raining and I couldn't even push the car out of the way and I was now late for work!! So I sat there for about an hour waiting for the tow truck from my roadside assistance to come and tow me away. The tow man finally got to me about 1:45pm and was very nice and very quick. Towed me right to the auto shop and left. The 2 guys at the shop were also very nice and I learned that it would only be a little less than $200 to fix it!! Praise the Lord! It looked alot worse than that. The tire looked like it had popped off of my car. Then I received a ride from a man at the auto shop and got to work only an hour and 15 minutes late! It's OK, we weren't terribly busy today. We made up for it later though!
Well, gotta get to bed for an early morning. Now that my car is getting fixed, my loving husband has to take me to work before he goes to work and I have to get up earlier to make sure I eat my breakfast with this diet I am trying. It's not bad though, I just can't be missing any meals for lack of time. Therefore, I will blog at you later!

I love staying in contact with my friends. I have been searching for friends on the internet that I have lost contact with and have found information on 3 of them. Praise the Lord! Keeping up with people and making time to stay in contact with them is a very important thing to me. Friends are so important in life. For encouragement, for LOTS of laughs, for remembering old times, and to just see where the Lord has led them in their lives. See below for some people I have been able to get in contact with lately.

Along with staying in touch with others, I have been planning a trip to a friend's wedding in CA. I can't wait to see Julie Doyel get married. She met a man named Jeremy through a friend at camp and fell in love. They wrote and emailed for a long time and then finally met and then soon after became engaged. She is planning on getting married August 26, 2006.

After seeing her log and some persuasion, my friend Sarah talked me into creating a blog.
